This lapper is a precision built machine, designed to eliminate
the manual work of lapping and polishing. It is balanced, therefore it
does not have to be bolted down. This machine operates as its name
implies, the lap plate revolves slowly and reciprocates 575 times per
minute simultaneously. It is extremely quiet in operation and very
economical in the use of grinding and polishing compounds.
The lapper is built to industrial standards, all cast iron and
steel construction. The crank shaft is 1 1/2" in diameter and is
supported by precision ball bearings. The lap plate rides on ball
bearings and is actuated by the crank shaft which has a stroke of
7/16". The lap plates are made of fine grain cast iron and machined
flat to a very close tolerance. The lapper is capable of lapping to
within three light bands of helium light or millionths of an inch of
flatness.
There are three styles of lap plates. Smooth, radial grooves, or
1/8" x 1/2" cavities. The cavities seem to be the most popular
design. Rociprolap will lap wood, metal, glass or any material which
must be optically flat. It is ideally suited for lapping compressor
valves, etc. The machine will operate unattended for many hours at a
time.
Machine is sold complete with splash guard, bumper ring and motor.
